Through experimentation, play, and discussion, a group of people with functional diversity was brought together to develop a playground based on the sport modality of wheelchair slalom. They worked with materials but, above all, used the body as a creative and performative tool.
The project aimed to develop six game models adapted and created by and for people with paraplegia and tetraplegia, following hybrid rules improvised throughout the process and always open to change. These formats, somewhere between precarious and anarchic, also seek to escape capitalist logics, allowing these games to be represented or reformulated by other communities in the present or future.
This piece was co-produced alongside art therapist Nerea Rodríguez and developed in collaboration with the CRE Disability and Dependency Center in San Andrés del Rabanedo, León, as well as MUSAC (Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla and León).
The collaboration with CRE enabled close, tailored work addressing the specific needs of participants, fostering active participation, empowerment, and bodily and creative exploration. MUSAC provided a cultural venue that expanded the reach of the proposal, integrating it into an open and accessible artistic context for the general public.
The project aims to build bridges between art, health, and community, highlighting and valuing the creative capacities and processes of people with functional diversity.
